I’m a Senior Fellow for History and Foreign Policy at the Council on Foreign Relations and the author of The Lumumba Plot. From 2008 to 2024, I worked as an editor at Foreign Affairs, finishing my time at the magazine as executive editor. I’ve written for publications including The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek, Politico Magazine, and Slate. I grew up in Ontario and Ohio, and got a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College. I live in New Jersey with my wife and children.
